Please follow this procedure to complete a current event. It is designed to prepare you for success with your IB Internal Assessment!

  • Find an article from a newspaper, journal, or the world wide web. It must be from a legitimate source – blogs are not acceptable! You may only use an article from a source one time (so you cannot use two articles from CNN, for example).

  • Print a hard copy of the article. When doing so, try to minimize paper used by not printing pictures, and other unnecessary things. Do not print in color.

  • Provide the following information about your article (a hard copy will need to be submitted with your article):
    • Title of the extract (article)
    • Source of the extract (provide a working URL)
    • Date of the extract
    • Brief explanation of the article – 10–15 sentences maximum. Be sure to focus on the economics of the article and fill in the blanks – tell us what economic concepts are "hiding" in the article.
    • List and define any and all vocabulary terms from the article or related to the article.
    • Create an appropriate graph which is related to the article.
    • Provide some sort of evaluation of the economics of the article. Do you, as an economist, agree or disagree with the article? Is it a good idea/policy? What are the potential effects of it? Who may benefit or be hurt? Are there any mistakes? Etc…

  • DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE ARTICLE!!!
